QUARTERLY ESTIMATE.
To the Honorable the Chief Secretary
Sir,
I have the honor to submit for approval the following Estimate* of Expenditure during the Quarter ending 31st Decr 1877.
2
On 20 December a memo addressed to M had been sent by the Under-Treasurer, E. Symonds, saying that a remittance for £75 'has been passed in anticipation of the usual Estimate K being received duly approved. If an application to the Hon. the Cf. Secretary has not already been made, it is desirable that no further delay may occur'. The document submitted by Luehmann, which is a completed Form K, was no doubt filed in response to this.
The file includes an undated MS annotation by 'H. B.' [Henry Brook]: 'A remittance a/c for the outgoing mail has been passed to the Treasury in anticipation of the Estimate. Under the circumstances may a K form be accepted signed by Mr Luehmann in the absence of the Govt Botanist'.
