My dear Baron.
Will you kindly tell me what is the
Potamogeton marinus L.
of your Census
? I have no specimens, & our Library is so badly off for Botanical works, that I have
no means of reference. Is it closely allied to
P. pectinatus L.
? J. Hooker in his British Flora gives 2 Subspecies of P. pectinatus — pectinatus proper = "P. marinus Hud." & filiformis
Pers = "P. pectinatus Linn. Herb."
Is either of these ours?

A thousand thanks for naming a batch of plants for me some time ago. I ought to have
thanked you before but the fact is I had hoped to be able to tell you something about
the habitat of
Helichrysum Gravesii
. But communication with the islands is so slow & uncertain, that I have not yet had
an answer.
I long to put back
Brachycome
into
Bellis
! Surely the slight differences between them are scarcely sufficient to warrant their
separation. However much wiser heads than mine have acquiesced in it — yours among
the rest.
You asked me some time ago to send you certain plants if I came across them, in Gunn's
Herbarium. You named Cuscuta. This is the only one I have found at present, & enclose
you a bit. It is marked
"Launceston
January, 1864".
Should I find any others, you may depend upon my sending you specimens.
I remain
Yrs very truly
W. W. Spicer.
P.S. Don't forget when you write, to do so in German!
