The text given here is from a report of the meeting of the Scientific Committee of the Royal Horticultural Society held on 5 December 1877, Gardeners' chronicle , 8 December 1877, p. 726. The specimens may have been sent personally to Masters, who had a special interest in malformations of the flower (see Masters (1869)). The letter is dated to October as the latest likely date that it could have been sent to have been discussed at the meeting in question.
