I beg respectfully to recommend, that in accordance with Mr Ferres's suggestions 25 reams of lithographic paper be ordered from England for one years portion of the Eucalyptus Atlas. During the delay, thus arising, the pencil-drawings can be prepared, by which means the subsequent lithographic work will be much expedited afterwards. The payment for the drawings will be defrayed out of the votes of my Department, and as the printing both of lithograms and text will be a byework, no special expense beyond the purchase of the paper will be incurred, while the sale of the work is likely to be extensive, irrespective of its merits for advancement of local industries and educational purposes.
Ferd von Mueller.

The Government Printer, John Ferres, suggested in a letter dated 18 August 1877 to the Chief Secretary that plate paper for the proposed Atlas be purchased from England. His letter was sent to M for comment by Odgers on 20 August 1877. In M to G. Berry, 18 July 1877 (in this edition as 77-07-18a), M had sought permission to undertake the Atlas and to have it printed at the Government Printing Office. A minute indicates that the paper was ordered on 13 September 1877.
