It is my pleasing duty, dear Dr Hooker, to offer to your well merited elevation to
British Knighthood my sincere gratulation.
May this mark of Royal favor bring happiness into your family and encourage you to
proceed on your glorious path and may you long be spared to enjoy the reward of your
long labours free from impediments envey and discouragements.

Hooker was appointed a Knight Commander of the Order of the Star of India on 2 June
