The register records that M's letter was returned to him on 26 July 1877 minuted: ‘no objection’. Over 400 people joined the special train to Colac from Melbourne that coveyed the Governor and cabinet ministers to celebrations for the opening of the Geelong to Colac Railway in 27 July (Geelong advertiser, 28 July 1877, p. 2). A full passenger list has not been found.
