To the Cavalier Marinucci,
Consul General for Italy
Melbourne
Sir.
I felt highly gratified, to receive from his Excellency the Minister of Foreign affairs of Italy through you the intimation, that the distinguished Royal Venetian Institute of sciences, letters and arts has done me the honor, to enrol me a Corresponding member, and I have to acknowledge the receipt of the beautiful diploma

which accompanied his Excellency's communication.
May I ask you, to express to his Excellency my grateful appreciation of the distinction, so generously and unexpectedly conferred on me by a scientific union of such great celebrity; and let me offer my assurance, that I will endeavour to merit the confidence of the Venetian savants in my ability and readiness to cooperate in their scientific labors. I reflect on this new mark of honor from your country with particular pleasure, as from your great Kingdom I have been so frequently encouraged in my literary work.
I am, honored Chevalier,
your regardful
Ferd. von Mueller, M.D., Ph.D.
