On 20 April 1877, MacPherson minuted: 'Can the Treasurer spare this sum?'. Receipt of the file at the Treasury was recorded on 21 April. On 22 June 1877 the Under Treasurer, E. Symonds, noted: 'The advance asked for not having been granted the papers are returned to the Honorable the Chief Secretary'.
