See also Certificate dated 14 May 1877. George Brown appears to have been put forward
for election twice. When Brown first went to New Zealand he lived with his uncle by
marriage, Rev. Thomas Buddle. Wise's directory of New Zealand for the years 1875-6 lists two Buddle households in Hepburn Street, Auckland, one 'Thos. Buddle'. In late
1876 and part of 1877 Brown was on furlough with time in New Zealand, but he returned
to mission duties by mid-year (G. Brown (1908), pp. 219–23). See also M to H. Rawlinson,
3 November 1874 (in this edition as 74-11-03a).
