Dear Baron,
I almost blush to send you so well marked a plant as the enclosed, but I cannot make up my mind satisfactory about it; it grows near the banks of a saltwater (inland) creek; perfectly glabrous, except it is lasianthous, with four extended scarcely didynamous stamens, the regular calyx of , and the irregular flowers of or , and the habit and general appearance of Duboisia —

MS found with a specimen of boninense subsp. australe (MEL 1545784).
Is the Eugenia I formerly enclosed Smithii, or myrtifolia? in either case the leaves are smaller (uniformly) than the description. With a renewed apology
I am
Yours sincerely
Ch. Prentice
