Es thut mir recht leid zu hören, bester Freund, dass Sie so krank gewesen. Auch mich
warf ein schwerer Bronchial Catarrh, der bei erblicher Anlage zur Phthisis für mich
immer sehr bedenklich ist, aufs Krankenlager. Ich bin auch noch fast an das Zimmer
gefesselt u keineswegs ganz ausser Gefahr und habe nicht, wie Sie, ein liebendes Wesen,
das Sie am Krankenbett pflegen kann. Lassen Sie mich hoffen, dass Sie sich ganz erholt
haben; Ihre Constitution ist ja so stark u. gut.
Ich erhielt meine Exemplare von Apteryx Haastii von Herrn Ulrich, der Secretair der
öffentl. Bibliothek in Hokitiki ist.
Von dem Druck meiner "Industrial plants" in einer Neu Seeland Ausgabe hörte ich bis
jetzt
nichts
. Ich fürchte, dass

der Ausführung im Wege stehen; solche — wenn ich überhaupt recht denke — geht aber
nicht
von Dr Hector aus; für mich wäre die Sache ein grossen "support" gewesen.
Suchen Sie doch einmal recht genau nach Früchten der Donatia, u ermitteln Sie gütig
ob die Stamina oder das Pistil in irgend einer Weise reizbar sind. Unter frisch
Wasser
Pflanzen, zumal den kleinen Wasserlinsen, sollte sich dort noch immer etwas Neues
finden. Hiermit die Leeuvenhoekia, von welcher Art ich ein Exemplar zwischen Ihren
Pflanzen fand.

I am very sorry to hear, best of friends, that you have been so ill. A heavy bronchial
catarrh, which in the case of hereditary predisposition to phthisis is always very
serious for me, cast me on the sick bed too. I am still also almost chained to the
room and by no means quite out of danger and have not, like you, a loving creature
who can care for you on the sick bed. Let me hope that you have quite recovered; your
constitution is certainly strong and good.
I received my specimen of Apteryx haastii from Mr Ulrich,
who is the secretary of the public library in Hokitiki.
Until now I have heard
nothing
of the printing of my Industrial plants
in a New Zealand edition. I fear that
envy
and
jealousy perhaps
stand in the way of fulfillment; such — if I think at all correctly — proceeds but
not
from Dr Hector; for me the matter would have been a great "support".
Do search very carefully again for the fruits of the Donatia, and kindly inform me whether the stamen or the pistil are in any way sensitive.
Among fresh
water
plants, especially the small duckweed, something new ought still to be found there.
