The minutes record that 'The Town Clerk was directed to order £2 worth'. On 26 August 1876, Read, the Town Clerk, wrote to J. Dickinson of Portarlington, near Geelong, requesting him to collect about £2 worth of seed from Leptospermum laevigatum in the forthcoming summer. Read noted that M had recommended L. laevigatum as a sand stay. The Warrnambool Borough Council intended to plant the seed at the commencement of winter in 1877. See letterpress copy-book 4.
