MS black-edged; M's brother-in-law, Eduard Wehl, had died on 11 February 1876.
Would you have the kindness, dear Mr Ramsay, to send me a copy of each of the school
books, adopted at the State Schools, so that I may see, how far their form can be
adopted for the intended school flora.

On 21 June 1876 Ramsay minuted: 'Forward copies'. A further annotation explains: 'i.e. Reading books from 2nd upwards'. On 27 June, the file was annotated: 'copies of 2d, 3d, 4th & 5th Reading books sent with letter [SB] 76/109'.
Publication of the
'school flora'
was
stopped by John MacPherson, Ramsay's successor as Chief Secretary when the Government
changed on 20 October 1875. See discussion in Lucas
et al.
(2006), pp. 37-39.
With best respects
Ferd von Mueller
