[Proposed Circular for State Schools re collecting plants]
2
M's letter was forwarded to the Minister for Education on 16 June minuted by the Chief Secretary: 'For careful considn & if apped to direct circulars to be sent to the various State Schools’. It appears that M's proposal was taken up, because on 29 August the Secretary of the Education Department, H. Venables, wrote to the Under Secretary of the Chief Secretary's Department, W. Odgers: 'A circular on the subject has been issued to all the State Schools in Victoria & when replies shall have been received I shall be able to say how many schools will be prepared to assist in the object in view'. This was, however, filed as a reply to a letter from Odgers inquiring how many copies of M's proposed School Flora might be required by the Education Department; it would seem that the file clerk mistook the subject-matter.
