Permettez-moi de vous demander s'il me serait possible d'obtenir quelques unes des plantes du Dr Beccari, soit par éxchange, ou par achat, dans le but de contribuer a leur elaboration, sans m'immiscer dans les portions de l'élucidation, que vous-même et vos collaborateurs italiens peuvent desirer d'entreprendre. Il est naturel, que je prenne beaucoup d'interêt dans la végétation de l'Inde insulaire, ayant fait des explorations étendues dans l'Australie tropicale, surtout dans les parties alpestres; les types australiens m'intéresseraient grandement, d'autant plus qu'ayant examiné la végétation alpestre de l'Australie en 1853, 1854 & 1855, je voudrais etablir une comparaison. Un nouvel envoi de plantes pour le Musée sera expedié sous peu, a vos noble institutions, ainsi que quelques publications nouvelles.

Avec ma profonde consideration et en vous assurant combien je déplore la perte de notre illustre ami Brogniart, veuillez, cher Professeur, accepter mes salutations distinguées.

Allow me to ask you whether it would be possible for me to obtain some of Dr Beccari's plants, whether by exchange or by purchase, with the aim of contributing to their elaboration, without interfering in the parts of the elucidation that you and your Italian collaborators may wish to undertake. It is natural that I take a great deal of interest in the vegetation of insular India, having made extensive explorations in tropical Australia, above all in the alpine parts;

the Australian types would interest me greatly, the more so since having examined the alpine vegetation of Australia in 1853, 1854 & 1855, I should like to establish a comparison. A new sending of plants for the Museum will be despatched shortly to your noble institutions, as well as some new publications.
