Ich sende Ihnen hiermit, theuerer Freund, einige Lepidopteren (freilich arg zerdrückt) welche mir mein Freund A. Thozet eben zuschickte. Diese alle saugen nächtlich den Saft der Orangen und Guaven aus, vermöge eines Borapparats. Die Arten mögen noch nicht alle bekannt sein.

Ich schäme mich fast vor Sie hinzutreten, aber bei den unglücklichen politischen Verhältnissen und der Verschuldung der jungen Colonie hat meine Anstalt so gelitten, dass es mir seit 3 oder 4 Jahren kaum möglich war auf irgend etwas Anderes als strict Officielles meine Aufmerksamkeit zu verwenden. Ich gedenke jedoch, dass ich bald meine ganzen Einrichtungen so umändern kann, um mich freier zu ergehen, und die Nebenarbeiten für Sie auch wieder ordentlich vornehmen zu können.

I am sending you herewith, dearest Friend, some lepidoptera (admittedly badly crushed) that my friend A. Thozet just sent me. These all suck out the juice of oranges and guavas at night, by dint of a boring apparatus. The species may not yet be all known.

I am almost ashamed to stand before you, but with the unfortunate political conditions and the indebtedness of the young colony my institute has suffered so much that it was scarcely possible for me for three or four years to give my attention to anything other than strictly official matters. However, I am mindful that I can soon alter my whole arrangements very much, so as to be freer to be able also to carry out the extra work for you again properly.
