Ich danke Ihnen, lieber Herr Docktor, für Ihren freundlichen Brief und Ihr gütiges Andenken. Es ist gut, dass Sie mit Ihren Schätzen glücklich zurück sind und so weit Ihr Material sicher daheim ist, was weder Raffles noch Reinhardt sagen konnten. Von Zeit zu Zeit werde ich Ihnen Moose senden, da der ehrwürdige Hampe doch nun nicht lange mehr fortarbeiten kann.

Mit Lindberg ist doch nichts auszurichten; es ist schade, dass ich ihm so viel sandte und nun nichtmal eine Series zurück erhalten kann, um die Moos-Sammlung für mein Museum wieder complete zu machen. Sind Sie mit ihm in Correspondenz? Ich hätte gern einen einfachen index aller bisher bekannten Moose Australiens (und Tasmaniens, nicht Neu Seelands) für meinen in Arbeit genommenen Census aller Pflanzen bisher aus diesem 5th Welttheil bekannt. Dazu würde Lindberg doch wohl Hülfe leisten oder meine bei Ihm noch liegende Sammlung Ihnen zu Gebot stellen. Vielleicht reisen Sie im Sommer zu ihm doch hinüber.

Von unserem Freunde Agardh habe ich seit sehr langer Zeit gar nicht mehr gehört. Sagen Sie Ihm freundlichst, dass ich immer einen Theil Künftiger Sammlungen Ihm zuwenden würde, mit Sonder bin ich befreundet seit 1845; so mag ich selbigem natürlich auch nicht Alles entziehen, da die Algen seine besondern Lieblinge sind.

Berggren visited Australia, New Zealand and California in 1874-5.

and so far your material is at home safely, which neither Raffles nor Reinhardt could say. From time to time I shall send you mosses, since the venerable Hampe really can now no longer continue working.

Nothing is to be achieved with Lindberg; it is a shame that I sent him so much and now cannot even get a series back so as to make the moss collection for my museum complete again. Are you in correspondence with him? I should like a simple index of all previously known mosses of Australia (and Tasmania, not New Zealand) for my Census that I am working on of all plants previously known from this fifth continent.

Only the sections of M's Census covering the vascular plants was ever published; see B83.03.04, B89.12.03.

Surely Lindberg would help with that or place my collection still with him at your disposal. Perhaps you will travel over to him in the summer.

I have heard nothing at all for a very long time from our friend Agardh. Most kindly tell him that I should always give him a part of future collections; I have been friends with Sonder since 1845, so also of course I may not take everything away from him, since the algae are his particular favourites.
