In compliance with your instructions I have the honor to forward to you herewith a copy of an estimate for public works, recommended for my department, and submitted this day to the Honorable the Commissioner of Public Works.

The requested amount was included in Victoria, Estimates of Revenue & Expenditure for the year ending 30 June 1877 (Parliamentary paper B1), July 1876, p. 47 under subdivision 11, item 10. M's later request to use the money for a completely new building was denied; see M to J. MacPherson, 17 February 1877, and W. Odgers to M, 23 February 1877.
