Sir
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of a copy of Dr Bidie's illustrated work
on the Neilgherries Loranthaceae, which volume I have placed into the library of the
bot. Museum.
I beg now to suggest that as a return-gift the 7th & 8th vol. of my "Fragmenta phytographiae
Australiae" may be sent to the Government of the Madras Presidency.

Bidie (1874).

The Under Secretary, W. Odgers, approved M's request on 3 September 1875 and copies
of the vols were sent to Madras.
On 24 November 1875, D. F. Carmichael, the Secretary to Government, Fort St George,
Madras wrote to the Chief Secretary of Victoria, Robert Ramsay: 'I am directed to
acknowledge, with thanks, the receipt of a copy each of Volumes 7 and 8 of Baron Von
Mueller's Fragmenta Phytographiae Australiae, forwarded with your letter of the 7th
September last No. 4015, and to state that the previous volumes of the work have not
been received by this Government' (K76/300, unit 899, VPRS 3991/P, Public Record Office,
Victoria).
On 11 January 1876 Odgers asked the Government Printer, J. Skinner, if vols.1 to 6
of the Fragmenta could be supplied. Skinner replied on 12 January that vols 2 to 5 were out of print
but that vols 1 and 6 could be supplied. Odgers instructed that vols 1 and 6 be forwarded
and that it be intimated that vols 2 to 5 were out of print.
On 25 February 1876 Carmichael wrote to Ramsay: 'I am directed to acknowledge with
thanks, the receipt of a copy each of Volumes 1 and 6 of Baron Von Mueller's Fragmenta
Phytographiae Australiae forwarded with your letter of the 19th January 1876 No. 107'
(K76/3563, unit 899, VPRS 3991, Public Record Office, Victoria).
I have the honor to be,
Sir, your obedient servant
Ferd. von Mueller.
W H. Odgers Esq &c
Undersecretary.
