Melbourne,
20/4/75.
W. H. Odgers Esqr.
Undersecretary
Sir
I have the honor of submitting for the consideration of the honorable the Minister a requisition for the distribution of the 7th & 8th vol. of the Fragmenta. The 8th is just completed, and it has been customary to distribute the successive volumes to the extent of 80 copies each, whenever they appeared, to the different institutions and men of science, with whom the Department is in interchange of literary productions, and this offer on our part was always made by special inscription on behalf of the Vict. Government.
1
MS marginal annotation by Odgers: '& of course will continue to be so'.
When the 7th. vol. appeared, I had not the courage to ask for the usual copies for distribution, as at the time the erroneous view seemed to prevail, that out of this more legitimate interchange personal advantages did arise to myself.
2
The 7th volume was issued in February 1872.
Hence the solicitation now, that the two volumes may go together. If necessary a list of the institutions and other recipients can be submitted.
I have the honor to be,
Sir, your obed. servant
Ferd. von. Mueller
