I had just a letter from Commodore Goodenough, dear friend,

in which this excellent man expresses his willingness to give me a passage in one of his noble ships, should one be despatched to N. G. But as yet no plans are formed. Pray do therefore not disturb the officers.

M was keen to go with Ramsay on an exploring trip to Eastern New Guniea; see M to E. Ramsay, 10 October 1874.
I look forward to the palms &c with pleasurable anticipations.
