I have the honor by direction of the Corio Shire Council to forward to you herewith
accompanying specimen of plant which is supposed to have caused the death of a number
of young cattle lately on the You Yangs Farmers Common.

I am to mention that cattle which have been depasturing on the Common for a length
of time appear not to be in any way affected by eating the plant but only those admitted
thereon within the past three months.
The Council desire respectfully to request that you will be pleased to furnish report
at your earliest convenience as to the nature of the plant in question for their information.

P.S. I may further point out that the pasture on the Common has been very short since
winter set in.
