The return for all departments was printed as Supernumeraries & non-classified clerks in the Government service, Victoria, Parliamentary paper 1874 no. A 3 (LC). M's return is in a table on p. 4, dated as 10 July 1874, and reports J. G. Luemann, paid 9s. per diem, appointed 21 February 1869, holding the office 'Clerical assistant and Custodian of the Botanic museum'. The text below the table reads 'Note.—This is the only clerk who can be paid out of the vote granted for the Government Botanist's department, although another officer has been regularly and necessarily employed during the whole financial year.'
