MS found with a specimen of Pterostylis aspera (MEL 1560863), collected at Geographe Bay, WA. Neither the letter nor the specimen with which it is associated gives the year. However, there is a second specimen of the same species at MEL (MEL 1561639), collected in 1874 but with no month given. On the basis that this was a specimen of 'more of that kind', the letter is tentatively dated to 1874. However, dated orchid specimens collected by Bunbury and now in MEL range from 1874 to 1881 (AVH, accessed 6 April 2022).

Dear Sir,

Letter not found.
I spoke to a little girl who brings me Bush flowers for pressing, and found that she had marked some roots, which I now have much pleasure in sending, and I hope they may succeed: among them there is one yellow but when they begin to appear, I shall be able to send more of that kind as they are very common about here. Excuse this hurried note, and believe me truly yours
