MS is a printed certificate with a decorated upper border and additional similar decoration
around the 'Brevet' in the lower left corner. M's name and details and the name of
the Order to which he was being admitted have been entered by hand.

haben Sich vermöge allerhöchster Entschliessung vom 14ten Januar laufd. Jahres allergnädigst
bewogen gefunden, dem Vorstand der botanischen Anstalt in Melbourne, Professor Baron Müller, das Ritterkreuz
1ter Klasse des Königlichen Verdienst Ordens vom heiligen Michael zu verleihen.
Zur Legitimation hierüber wird gegenwärtiges Brevèt von dem Staats-Ministerium des
Königlichen Hauses und des Aeusern, als Grosskanzler-Amte des erwähnten Ordens, ausgestellt.

His Majesty the King
of Bavaria
has most graciously deigned, according to the sovereign decree of 14th of January
of this year, to confer on the Head of the botanic Institute in Melbourne, Professor
Baron von Mueller, the Knight's Cross Ist Class of the Royal Order of Merit of Saint
Michael.
In legitimation of this the present certificate is issued by the Ministry of State
of the Royal House and of Foreign Affairs, as office of the Grand Chancellor of the
said Order.
