MS is a fragment, annotated in an unknown hand: ‘Mrs Annie Richards, Fowlers Bay (S.A.)’. Richards lived at Fowlers Bay from 1867 until 1884 (Maroske & Vaughan (2014)). The earliest
dated specimens at MEL are from 1874, and as this appears to be an early communication
with M, it is dated to 1874 as the latest likely date; however, the language and spelling in A. Richards to M, 1874 (in this edition as 74-00-00a) does not have errors as this one does. The handwriting in the image of part of this letter in Maroske & Vaughan (2014), p. 155,
appears very similar to that on the label of MEL 2058610 (accessed 31 January 2025),
so it is unlikely that the annotator misidentified the author.
