Note found with a specimen of Euc a lyptus youngiana (MEL 31297). The note is not dated. It is assigned to 1874 on the basis of an associated note in the hand of J. H. Willis: 'Probably collected in 1874, before Police Trooper Thomas Richards guided Ernest Giles to Oldea in 1875'. In his published description (B76.01.01, p. 5), M cites 'Richardson' as the collector, but this is probably an error as M's label for the specimen with which the present note is associated names the collector as Richards, and no other specimen collected by someone named Richardson before the description was published has been found. M's published location reference for the 'Richardson' specimen, 'sinus marinum Fowler's Bay versus' [bay of the sea towards Fowler's Bay], also seems to be at odds with the specimen label, which gives the location 'North of Fowlers Bay'.

large flowering Mallee.
I beg'd these for you, but they are such poor things I fear they will be of no use. Should we be here next winter will try to get some good specimens.
