Letter not found. The text given here is from Leader, 9 August 1873, p. 6. A Mr Bath had detected a new disease of rye grass and sent specimens to the Leader.
[Tufts of the diseased grass were also forwarded by Mr. Bath to the secretary for agriculture, Mr. Wallis. These were submitted to Baron von Mueller, who pronounced the new pest to be some species of , a genus belonging to the second division of the natural order of Fungi, an, order which embraces all the lowest forms of vegetable life, such for instance as Rust, Mildews, Moulds, and the like.]
