Probably Transactions and proceedings of the New Zealand Istitute, vol. 5, edited by Hector and issued in May 1873; it included M's preliminary notes on a collection of Chatham Island plants (B73.05.01). R. Gore to M, 9 April 1872 (in this edition as 72-04-09a) announced that a parcel of Chatham Is. plants, collected by H. Travers and purchased by the museum, had been sent.
I have placed it in the Library of my museum; that I could not absolve fully yet my obligations, concerning the Chatham Island plants you will understand, when you reflect how I had to "struggle for existence" for the last year and more. When I get peace, I will give my attention to them.
