Melbourne bot Garden
30/5/73
Sir
I have the honor to acquaint you, that I have received a few days ago from Dr Eichler,
Director of the bot Garden of Kiel, two (2) large folio-volumes of his work on Brazilian
plants, largely illustrated.
In return it would be recommendable to send to the Director at Kiel such of my own
works, as are available in the Gov. Printing office, by which means the reciprocity
will be maintained and Dr Eichler's future volumes be secured. I therefore beg to
submit a requisition formally for your favorable consideration. I also beg to advise,
that he may receive a collection of Australian seeds for such other kinds of seeds
as are here required from the bot Garden of Kiel.
1
Probably fascicles 55 and 58 of his continuation from 1869-1886 of Martius (1840-1906), published in 1871 and 1872 respectively (TL2). The copy of fascicle 55 in the Library at MEL is inscribed to M by Eichler.
I have the honor to be, Sir, your obedient servant
Ferd. von Mueller,
Direct. botan Garden
The honorable the Minister of the Lands Department
