On 13 May 1873, the Secretary of the Warrnambool Hospital, A. Davies, wrote to the Secretary of Agriculture, A. R. Wallis: 'I do myself the honor by direction of the Committee to request a donation from the Botanical Gardens of suitable trees and shrubs for the ornamentation of the Hospital Grounds — Mr Scoborio who will present this letter will take charge of such trees and shrubs as you may be able to spare for the purpose and being a practical gardener is aware what kinds are most likely to thrive, the grounds being exposed to the Southern Ocean'.
The file was annotated by Wallis: 'The Govt Botanist will be good enough to state which of the items contained in lists appended to within applications (2) can be supplied A. R. Wallis 17.5.73.'
The second application to which Wallis referred appears to have been a 'Catalogue of Shrubs & Trees for the Benevolent Asylum' that is now in the same file, as follows, that concluded, 'any of the above named with whatever else there is to dispose off':
