MS written by G. Luehmann and signed by M.
Melbourne, 8th May 1873
Sir
I have the honor to solicit that you will be pleased to sanction the transfer of the
sum of £20.- from the vote for "Purchase of Books and Instruments" to the vote for
"Incidental Expenses", and to authorize me to expend this sum for renewing a number
of painted labels to plants in the Botanic Garden, which can be effected at the rate
of one shilling each. For some time past there have been no means available for this
purpose, and as in a botanic garden the labelling of the plants is one of the first
considerations I trust that you will grant my request.

Casey minuted his approval of M's request. The accountant in the Department of Lands
and Survey, E. Agg, arranged for the transfer and duly informed M when it had been
effected. On 11 June, M responded: 'Noted and returned to Mr Agg with best thanks
for his urbanity.'
I have the honor to be
Sir
Your obedient servant
Ferd. von Mueller.

The Honorable the Commissioner of Lands & Survey
