Four notes on small scraps of paper, identified by J. H. Willis as Howitt's, are attached
to the MS. Their contents appear unrelated to the letter. Where the letter was found
has not been recorded, but it was almost certainly with a specimen of Rubus rosifolius (MEL 1058223), collected at 'Mount Lookout near Mount Tasylor' in 1873.

My dear Baron
I found the enclosed yesterday growing in a gully on the west side of Mt Lookout (near
Mt Taylor) about 6 miles from this place. The ripe fruit is like a pale colored elongated
raspberry. The bramble is vigorous and climbs over the bushes. It is quite new to
me and I have thought it might be even to you. If you want any further information
I will go to the place and get it on your writing to me
I am dear Baron
yours very truly
A W Howitt
