Letter not found. The text given here is from ‘Editor’s Chair’, ‘California farmer and journal of useful sciences, 20 February 1873, p. 88. The letter is dated to early January 1873 as the latest
likely date that it could have been sent to have been announced in this issue of the
newspaper.
A very similar item appeared in the issue of 27 February, p. 44, which may have been
a repeat of information from the same letter:
We are under great obligations to
Baron
Von
Meuller (
sic
), of Melbourne, the distinguished Botanist and Director of the Gardens of Melbourne,
for a collection of New and Rare Seeds, many never before introduced into our State
and some new to other States.
Also, for a collection of valuable Papers, for which favors we are truly grateful.
