Botanic Garden Melbourne,
11/12/72
Sir
I have the honor to solicit that you will be pleased to sanction the transfer of the sum of £74.10/— from the vote Reward to orphan-boys employed in the Botanic Garden to the vote for Wages. My original estimate for the former item was £91. - . - for the Botanic Garden and the Reserves together; when the division took place one half that sum, viz £45.10/—, was provided for Govt. House Domain, and, through some misunderstanding I presume, £120. - . - were voted for this item for the Botan. Garden.

See under Department of Agricuture in vote for Commissioner of Crown Lands and Survey in record of meeting of the Legislative Assembly, 4 September, 1872 (Victoria, Votes and proceedings of the Legislative Assembly, Session 1872, vol. 1, p.170) The amended estimates had been tabled in the Assembly on 29 August, ordered to be printed and referred to the Committee of Supply, (p. 162).
As the whole of this sum will not be required for this purpose, I respectfully request that the above named transfer may be granted, as I shall by this means be enabled to retain the services of gardener Morrison for the ensuing seven months.
I beg to refer to my letter of 3rd inst.,

M to J. Casey, 3 December 1872.

I have the honor to be
Sir
Your obedient servant
Ferd. von Mueller,

In regard to gardener Morrison I beg to refer also to my letter of 3rd inst.
The Honorable the Commissioner of Lands
