Melbourne Botanic Garden 25 Octob. 1872
Sir,
I have the honor to inform you that I have been instructed by my colleagues, the trustees of the Royal Park, at a meeting held this day, to ask you to grant them an interview, the trustees being anxious to bring verbally their views in reference to the permanent reservation of the Park before you. The trustees would regard it a particular favor if they could wait on you before Friday of next week, as one of our colleagues proceeds on that day to a distant part of the country.

A meeting was offered for 30 October in J. Lewis to M, 29 October 1872.
I have the honor to be Sir
Your obedient

M to J. Grant, 1 November 1872 , reported that a meeting of the Trustees had requested the Chairman of the meeting to communicate their views .
The Royal Park had been ' permanently reserved from sale ' (Victoria government gazette, 25 March 1862, p. 529), but a portion had been sold (see M to J. MacPherson, 8 September 1870). Possibly as a result of the meeting, in an order of 24 July 1873, the land was 'vested in the Board of Land and Works conjointly with the trustees of the said Park' (Victoria government gazette, 8 August 1873, p. 1416).
