Sir,
I have the honor, by direction of the Trustees of the Melbourne General Cemetery,
to return you their best thanks for your kind offer, contained in your letter to me
of the 1st instant, with reference to the plants at the Old Cemetery and to state
in reply that as the Cemetery will shortly be placed in their charge, they have decided
upon undertaking the necessary work at once, at the same time I am directed to state
that the Trustees will feel greatly obliged by any suggestions you may favor them
with in reference to the above.

M to A. Purchas, 1 October 1872 was read at a meeting of the Trustees held on 9 October 1872, when it was agreed
that 'Reply to be sent to Baron Von Mueller thanking him for his kind offer, and informing
him that the Trustees had decided upon having the necessary work done by their men
without delay, but that the Trustees would thankfully receive any suggestion with
reference to the same' (Minute book 1). See also M to A. Purchas, 26 October 1872.
