Melbourne bot. Garden,

Private
This day, dear Dr Hector, I got the printed reports, which you so kindly sent. From
one I see, that you do not wish to distribute the new sets of Chatham Islands plants, until I
had fully examined them. But the unforeseen protracted persecution, which I have to
endure from a few traducers, who have hold on 2 or 3 journals here, has upset all
my literary arrangements for this year, and as I have moreover to resuscitate my garden
at this advanced season yet so far as I can from the decay into which it has largely
fallen since the last three years (when my administrative position was largely intruded
on) — it will be best for you not to delay the distribution of the Chatham Isl. plants any longer; but the recipients might receive intimation that the elucidation was reserved to me.

M to J. Hector, 17 July 1872, had indicated that M was delayed in publishing the detailed work on Henry Travers's collection to complement his preliminary report, B73.05.01.
I will write to Mr Travers in a few days
