The editor, Oliveira Junior, introduced the extract with 'N'uma carta particular do barão Ferdinand von Mueller, para o snr. Edmond Goeze, lia-se a seguinte passagem sobre a ’ [In a private letter from Baron Ferdinand von Mueller to Mr Edmond Goeze, one reads the following passage on the ]. It is not known who translated the text from the German in which M would have written to Goeze. It is dated to September 1872 as the latest likely date that it could have been sent to have been reported in the December issue of the Jornal.

Deverá ser uma noticia d'alguma importancia para o «Jornal de Horticultura Pratica» o saber-se que a casca da (A. nobilissima Wild., A. dealbata Link) contém duas e tres vezes mais tanino que a do . Considerando que esta especie de Acacia cresce com muito mais rapidez e vegeta no sólo mais pobre, comprehender-se-ha facilmente que grande serviço esta arvore ainda tão mal apreciada poderá prestar a Portugal, e sobretudo supportando ella alguns graus de frio. Obtem-se facilmente por meio de sementes.
