Letter not found. The extract given here is from the Gardeners' chronicle and agricultural gazette , 10 August 1872, p. 1067. It is dated to late June as the latest likely date that it could have been sent to have been quoted in this issue. It probably accompanied a copy of M's lecture on botanic gardens, the first part of which was published in this issue (B72.08.01). The extract is introduced by 'In a letter lately received from Baron Von Müller , of Melbourne, the following passage occurs —'.
Among all existing State gardens, none can be compared to the grand and justly-famed establishment at Kew. While the highest scientific administration is there brought to bear, it is also seconded by the enlightened and commensurate support, and the princely endowments of a great nation.
