C. Martius (1840-1906); the first 50 fascicles, i.e., until 1870, were being offered.
at reduced price. Perhaps you will be so friendly to submit the proposition to the trustees of the public Library.

MS annotation dated 5 September 1872: 'the present demands on the funds of the Library will not admit of the purchase of this work — when the question can be entertained the Trustees will have to consider in what respect the copy offered to the Baron for £57 be superior to that mentioned in Brunet as attainable colored for £40'.
