By this mail, dear Mr Tulk, I got the enclosed letter,
offering a copy of Martius great Work on Brazilian plants
at reduced price. Perhaps you will be so friendly to submit the proposition to the
trustees of the public Library.
1
See R. Jaeger to M, 2 March 1872.
2
C. Martius (1840-1906); the first 50 fascicles, i.e., until 1870, were being offered.
3
MS annotation dated 5 September 1872: 'the present demands on the funds of the Library
will not admit of the purchase of this work — when the question can be entertained
the Trustees will have to consider in what respect the copy offered to the Baron for
£57 be superior to that mentioned in Brunet as attainable
colored
for £40'.
your regardful
Ferd. von Mueller
