It [i.e. the letter] further asked the Baron's help in obtaining trees for the District.
Baron von Mueller sent a small case of American and European trees for distribution.
These trees were divided among the householders, "who will be at pains to give a little
attention to them during their first year of growth." The Baron sent the trees "partly
under the authority given him under the industrial clause of regulations established
in 1862 and partly in exchange for botanical specimens, seeds and plants which had
been sent to him from Portarlington and District."
