The accompanying article is 'AN OPEN POLAR SEA IN THE NORTH OF SIBERIA. Contributed by
Baron von Mueller.
Translated from the Australische Deutsche Zeit.' The original German-language article appeared in the Melbourne edition of the
Australische Zeitung, 29 February 1872; M enclosed a clipping of it in M to A. Petermann, 28 February 1872 (in this edition as 72-02-28a). (M presumably waited until he obtained the clipping before sealing the envelope containing
his letter.) The article gives an account of the results of an expedition by 'Lieutenants Meyprecht [printer's error
for Weyprecht?] and Payer of the K. K. [i.e. Austrian] Navy' with a crew of Norwegians,
and their discovery of a 'whaling ground, that of the sea north of Nova Zembla [i.e.
Novaya Zemlya]'.
