Letter not found. The text given here is from Jornal de horticultura practica, vol. 3, p. 60. The letter is dated to January 1872 as the latest likely date that it could have been written in time to be summarized for publication in the March issue of the Jornal.
[In a letter that has been received by the most dignified inspector of the Botanic Garden of Coimbra, Mr Ed. Goeze, Baron F. von Mueller of Melbourne announces to him two new plants that he describes.
The first is the Iris ( Moraea ) Robinsoni , a gigantic Iridea, whose leaves measure two metres long. It was discovered in Lord Howe island and the specific name was given to it in honor of the new governor of New South Wales, Sir Hercules Robinson.
2
Iris robinsoniana, described in B71.12.03, p, 153, under the names of Charles Moore and M.
By examining this plant it is proved that the genus Moraea (according to Endlicher but not according to Thunberg)
3
Endlicher (1836-40), p. 166; Thunberg (1787), that is the twelfth of Thunberg's dissertations, cited by M in B71.12.03, p. 154, as 'Thunb. Diss. 12'.
can not be separated from the genus Iris , thus having a very natural genus, which extends more in the terrestrial world than the genus .
Mr von Mueller also received from the same island a plant belonging to the family with which he formed a new genus - - in honor of the professor of botany at Madrid, Mr Colmeiro.
4
M erected (C. carpodetoides) in B71.12.03, p. 149.
In the family this genus already had been established by Reuter, but the monograph of this family eliminated it in the "Prodromus."
5
G. F. Reuter's genus was sunk into Securinega in J. Müller (1866), p. 446.
