I have the honor of submitting to you an application from Mr. Coleman Jacobs, to hold a concert in the botanic Garden. Should you feel pleased to entertain the proposition I would suggest, that the whole nett proceeds should be given to public charities.

See C. Jacobs to M, 14 September 1871. MS annotation by the Under Secretary, W. Odgers: 'Query as to allowing a charge to be made for admission to a Public Garden for a private purpose[.] I do not recommend.' On 3 October, Duffy minuted 'I do not approve', and M was informed of this on the same day.
