The date is almost illegible. The dating given here is based on the references to the Fragmenta, B71.07.01, p. 132, and the letters to Guilfoyle cited below.
Since I last wrote to you, dear Mr Bentham, I had occasion to reexamine newly sent fruit of and to get flowers also.

The latter do not differ generically from , but the fruit is so different from any of that Genus and so peculiar in its membranous seed appendage (carefully described in the Fragmenta V, 38)
