[A letter from Dr. Mueller to the Mayor was read, stating that the Aleppo pine would be best adapted for planting in the streets at Warrnambool. It would thrive well near the sea, and the lower branches could be taken off from time to time, as the trees grew up.]

A tree planting ceremony took place in Warrnambool on Tuesday, 29 August 1871. The site for planting was on the south side of Timor Street, from the Town Hall to the Court House and Police Office enclosure. The Mayor, Charles Cramer, said on the occasion: 'As to the kind of tree planted he had taken the opinion of Dr. Mueller, who had approved of the Aleppo Pine as best adapted to the temperature of the Western district, on the sea-coast. The Moreton Bay Pine had been suggested, but the doctor stated that it would not stand exposure to the weather in that part of Victoria.' (Warrnambool examiner, 1 September 1871, p. 2).
