National Museum.
In reply to your letter recd this day
I think the Diprotodons of which you ask were probably contemporaneous with the present
vegetation because the Dingoe was contemporaneous with them. I am greatly grieved
at the delay in paying Maxwell but you know the great misfortune which has befallen
the Museum in letting the Trustees of the Public Library impound the money voted for
it, and I am quite ashamed that the old grudge of the Library to the Museum has been
gratified at the expense of the poor people who have supplied goods & labor to the
Museum during the last 6 months. I expect to have it in a week and would be glad of
£10 worth more of additional specimens of Quadrupeds, Birds or Reptiles especially
the former.
