Supply of Norfolk Island pines. At the Council meeting on 26 April 1871, the Gardens Committee's recommendation was accepted 'That three acres of the land be ploughed up and that application be made to Geelong and Melbourne for 100 Norfolk Island Pines' (Minute book 4, p. 75; Belfast gazette, 3 May 1871, p. 2). The application sent to M has not been found but at the Council meeting on 26 May, it was reported that replies had been received from both Daniel Bunce, at the Geelong Botanic Garden, and M.
The minute of 26 May records that Mandeville was instructed to thank both Bunce and M [letter of thanks not found], and to make arrangements for the transit of the pines by Mary Stewart through Mr F. E. Beaver of Flinders Lane, Melbourne.
