Sir
Allow me to inform you that I have just been requested by Dr Herm. Wagner, the Editor of the Gotha-Hof-Kalender,
2
Gothaischen Genealogischen Hofkalender (= Almanach de Gotha). Data for the Australian colonies are collated under the British entry; the 1873 volume gives Tasmanian data for 1869, the most recent that Wilson could supply (see J. Wilson to M, 29 April 1871).
to obtain for him some summary of statistic data concerning the trade customs, postal service telegraph Department, Census, railways, volunteer force, mines, lands, public expenditure and income, and any other date in reference to your colony:
As the Gotha Kalender is universally used in the diplomatic Service, and also otherwise much consulted all over the Globe, you may be pleased perhaps to accede to Dr Wagner's request, and if so forward kindly to him direct any documents bearing on the statistic information desired or entrust such documents to me for early transmission to Gotha. I may add that the information required is only for 1870 and that the documents should be forwarded by the May mail
I have the honor to be,
Sir,
your very obedient
Ferd. von Mueller.
The honorable the Colonial Secretary of Tasmania.
